Industry experts and enthusiasts widely expect that Samsung will use this global stage to announce a brand-new, third foldable device to expand the Fold and Flip lineups that it has pioneered for years. This fresh addition to the portfolio will reportedly feature a shorter and wider chassis, carrying a form factor that is heavily rumored to mirror the design philosophy of Apple’s unannounced iPhone Ultra.
While the upcoming wider model is expected to carry the moniker Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, it represents a departure from being a direct successor to 2025’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 in terms of aesthetics. Instead, the true design successor to the Fold 7 will launch alongside it, wearing the more premium “Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra” nameplate. This has created some naming confusion in the tech community, but the strategy highlights Samsung’s goal to offer diverse form factors for different consumer tastes. While the devices will be officially unveiled on July 22, history suggests they will not immediately hit the retail shelves on launch day but will instead become physically available for purchase worldwide within a few weeks of the event.
The distinct physical layout of the Z Fold 8 Wide has been practically confirmed by leaks over the past few months, including dummy unit cases shared by prominent insider Sonny Dickson. While two of the leaked cases resembled traditional tall Samsung foldables, the third dummy unit showed a noticeably shorter and broader aspect ratio. According to detailed specifications leaked by insider Tarun Vats, the Z Fold 8 Wide will boast a 5.5-inch cover display and a massive 7.6-inch inner main screen, with both panels supporting an ultra-smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The inner screen is expected to adopt a comfortable 4:3 aspect ratio, a choice that aligns with leaked details discovered by Android Authority inside Samsung’s official One UI 9 files, proving this is a completely fresh take on the classic Galaxy foldable shape.
Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is built to deliver top-tier flagship performance. It is rumored to pack the highly advanced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, a powerhouse silicon that Samsung has integrated into its other recent high-end flagships. To complement this processing power, the phone is tipped to offer a standard 12GB of RAM alongside storage configurations ranging from 256GB and 512GB up to a massive 1TB option.
